Grading
During the course of each quarter, you will be expected to complete a variety of assignments: at-home and in-class projects, writing tasks, quizzes, tests and laboratory activities. Your grade will be a reflection of how well you accomplish these tasks, and the effort that you apply to complete them.
Your grade will be based on the following criteria:
There will be at least one project per quarter (lab reflections, group/individual projects, and a science writing task).
Science Homework
Homework is an important part of keeping up with the content in class; it is imperative that students have homework done by the class period in which it is due. Otherwise, students will be behind in the material and will not be able to receive full credit. I will always write homework on the designated “homework board”; students are responsible for writing this down in their agendas. Homework is part of Project Pride: Do Your Best Work as well as your child’s Citizenship Conduct grade. See Homework Choice Boards section in Procedures.
Science Notebook
Our main source of teaching and learning will be our Notebook of Science and your Science Binder. Students are expected to keep an organized notebook which will include all class notes, foldables, vocabulary work, all lab work... It will also focus on concept maps, drawings and sketches, poetry or song lyrics, reflections, questions, summaries of their learning, brainstorming, and connections to real-life. I will conduct observation checks for accuracy as well as random notebook pick-ups, when needed. Students will be expected to keep notebook and folder organized in order to be successful on graded class work assessments.
