Notebook: Students should bring all current science work to class in their Notebook of Science. A table of contents at the beginning of the notebook will log all unit work that is to be brought to class each day. Notebooks will contain foldables, class notes, vocabulary activities, and so much more.
Folder: Students will keep all class handouts, study guides, lab procedures, Gizmos' handouts... Folder will be cleaned out every quarter.
Google Classroom: All typed assignments will be submitted via Google Classroom.
Tests/Quizzes: Quizzes will be given roughly every three weeks. No study guides for quizzes. All tests will be announced ahead of time so each student may prepare adequately.
Kahoot Practice: Students will take several assessment-like checks that will be formative only (not count as a grade).
Seesaw: Seesaw is an online private social media-like program where students can post their work and parents can view. All lab reflections will be posted via Seesaw. Please note Seesaw is NOT like Google Drive. It does NOT save your work for you. You must click the green checkmark every time to save your work.
Laboratory/Activity work: All students will be required to participate in and complete all labs and activities as well as lab reflections via SeeSaw.
Projects: Each unit will incorporate one project that should be completed with maximum effort. Unit projects will be allowed extended time to complete.
Homework Choice Boards: Students will receive a chart for every unit of study. This chart will provide student choice for assignments: listening to a podcast, creating a 2D or 3D model, watching a video, doing an experiment at home, reading an article... all assignments will be submitted via Seesaw. HW Choice Boards will be posted in Google Classroom.
Warm Ups: Upon entering the classroom at the beginning of the period, directions will be posted on the screen with a science multiple choice question, a photograph, a video, a journal-like thought question or even a joke. Each student will have 10 minutes to complete the question and follow any other directions posted on the screen. The questions used for Do Nows are usually higher level questions that are intended to strengthen test taking skills and can be either a preview of the day’s lesson or a review of a previous lesson.
